How to install the SonicWall NetExtender for Windows

What is the SonicWall NetExtender

SonicWall NetExtender is a secure remote access client that enables users to connect to their corporate network over a Virtual Private Network (VPN). It provides seamless, encrypted access to network resources, allowing employees or remote users to securely use applications, files, and services as if they were directly connected to the office network.

Download the SonicWall NetExtender

NetExtender can be downloaded through two primary methods: directly from the SonicWall SSL VPN portal or from the SonicWall VPN client download page. We recommend downloading the NetExtender installer from SonicWall to ensure you get the lastest version.

If you are downloading the SonicWall NetExtender, your administrator probably already sent the server name, username, and password.  

  1. Enter the server name provided by your administrator into your browser, prefixed with “https://”, and press Enter to proceed.

  1. Login to the NetExtender SSL-VPN portal with the credentsl your administrator give you for the NetExtender.
  1. Click the Download button to download the NetExtender installer.

Download the NetExtender from SonicWall

  1. Click the link to open SonicWall’s VPN Client download page in a new browser tab. If the page does not navigate directly to the NetExtender section, simply scroll down to locate it.
  1. Select the appropriate version of Windows and click Download. If you’re unsure which version to choose, opt for the Windows 64-bit version.

Install the SonicWall NetExtender Client

The installation process for the NetExtender client is straightforward. To streamline the setup, ensure you have the server name and domain provided by your administrator readily available. However, if you do not have this information, that’s fine—it can be entered later.

  1. Once the download is complete, locate the installer (e.g., NetExtenderSetup.exe) in your Downloads folder.
  1. Double-click the installer to begin the installation process.
  1. If prompted by Windows User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to allow the installation.
  1. Click Next on the Welcome to the SonicWall NetExtender Setup Wizard screen.

  1. Select I Agree then the Next button on the License Agreement screen.

  1. Leave the default values and select the Next button.

  1. If you already have the server name and domain, enter them now to save time later. If not, simply click Next. Please note that the domain is case-sensitive.

  1. Leave the defaults and click Next on the Confirm Installation screen.

  1. Click Close on the Installation Complete screen.
  1. Click Yes to restart your computer to complete the installation.

Conclusion

With the installation complete and your system restarted, you are now ready to finalize the configuration and connect to the corporate network. The SonicWall NetExtender shortcut can be located on your desktop or in the Windows Start Menu.
